The project owner required assistance in developing the site plan for a new contemporary home and designing extensive gardens and a pool area on a unique hilltop property within an established urban neighborhood. The project goal was to carefully, creatively, and gracefully fit the home into the steep hillside without disturbing the site.
The striking house was positioned using a series of artistically designed landscape walls and terraces. This enabled the designers to step the residence, pool area, and various garden spaces down the hill while preserving much of the existing topography and mature trees along the slopes.
The owner, who has an extensive art collection, requested the landscape function as art throughout his property. This request resulted in painterly planting compositions, special paving details, unique stone work, and the flowing blankets of fescue grass covering the hillside. More utilitarian items were also designed to be sculptural, including the pool steps and hand rails, and the ornamental driveway-edge markers to alert winter snow plows.
